Not my Type of Hero

For me, a hero is the person that “saves the day” in a movie or a book. Siddhartha in my opinion is not hero. However, if you look up a definition of the word hero, Siddhartha can be named a hero. Hero: A person, typically a man, who is admired for courage or noble qualities. For a majority of readers Siddhartha is consider a hero because he is a person who is looking for qualities in himself while he was lost within the "Self" and how he manages to achieve his goal with several obstacles in his path. For this blog I have to compare Siddhartha to a hero and I choose Gandhi. I choose Gandhi because during Global Studies we watched a movie about him. During the movie I was able to related a lot to Siddhartha. 

Siddhartha and Gandhi have many similarities. 

The first similarities is they both have the persistence for making their goals happen. In this case Siddhartha’s goal is to find his true Self and Gandhi’s goal is to make the British leave India.   Another thing they have in common is that both have to change their attitude depending, in the situation they are in.  An example would be in Siddhartha he changes his attitude when he meets Kamala because he realizes that there are new ways of looking at the world. Gandhi changes his attitude towards the Muslims when they decide to divide Pakistan and India. For last they also have in common that the people follow their ideas and were a mayor impact in the world.   After all I have an impression of Siddhartha just like Gandhi because they are wise and are looking for the good and not for the bad.

A New Start

I just started reading the second part of the book Siddhartha.This part of the book is named Kamala. I have noticed that Siddhartha has changed his attitude in this section of the book. For me to notice that he changed his attitude was when he says"The world was beautiful when looked as in this way-without any seeking, so simple, so chidlike."  I can see from that quote that Siddhartha has changed the perspection of the world making me realize that he has changed.  I noticed  that Siddhartha wants to live his own path by the decisions he makes. He does not want to follow any Gods order o Govinda's orders he just wants to keep going by himself. I believe that since the beginning Siddhartha wanted to be himself only that he was scared to be himself. After all there are few people in society who are themselves and this is what Siddhartha earns in this part of the book. He is able to be independent from any opinion  and just following his Self. 
Also during this chapter Siddhartha meets Kamala which is a women that is really pretty and Siddhartha  falls in love with her. "...made a gesture, such as a woman makes when she invites a man to that kind of enjoyment of love..." This quote from the book makes me infer that Kamala will change the way Siddhartha life is because it is supposed that Samanas cannot have relationships like that one.

Let's Go Back Again

While reading pages 20 and on I noticed that I was really not understanding well the book. I decided to go back a few pages to see if I could understand better the book, and guess what I had some concept that I did not understand but after rereading it I now understand.The concept is: Siddhartha wants to find his true self that is his goal but to be able to do that he must empty his Self. To be able to that he must also do this :"empty of thirst, desire, dreams, pleasure and sorrow- to let the Self die."page 11. I first thought well this is not logical just because if he kills Self he would not have a opinion or something to learn but then after reading the passage again I understood. I believe that if you kill your thoughts/dreams you would not have anything to worry about. 
Therefore while I was reading the passage again I thought of how could I compare my self to want was happening that is Siddhartha leaving everything behind to accomplish his goal. I understand this position Siddhartha has with people who are compromised with sports and will do what ever it takes them to become professionals. This case is just has Siddhartha that wants to achieve the goals. 
Now I will continue reading to see if with the understanding I get it.

Who Should I Be?

Siddhartha by Herman Hesse is the book I am reading. I have just read about 15 pages and this book has made me think the way I am and act. The book main character is a child who has always pleased everyone, and has always been what he is told to be. This character made me think should I be that way? Obey all orders? Or should I be myself? Choosing all my the decisions? I believe I should be a combination of both styles, a combination of being nice to people and being able to choose my own decisions. This would make myself an independent person because I would be able to do it my way and still have support of people because I have been nice to them, Also I do agree with Siddhartha in the way he thinks of making his parents proud is something important. Most of the things I do at school are to show my parents. Therefore I do think parents should not get too involved in their some decisions because sometimes we children want to make our own decisions. This happened to Siddhartha who wanted to become Samana , his parents did not let him so he rebelled. He rebelled and won the argument. I sometime believe that’s something you most do so it’s fair. At last I think there should be a balance between being told what to do and making your own decisions to be a successful person.
